  1. Jason,

    2. What type of balance is used in the metamorphosis and what is the point of focus? Does either change between the steps or do they remain the same throughout the steps? Be specific in answers.
First off, I wanted to say that I really like what you did with the assignment. I feel like you used the letter to transition the piece. You used a shifting balance to show the change in sequence. The letter starts out on the left and as the slides progress the balance shifts to the right. The change in the balance allows for the viewer to understand the shift from the first sequence to the left. The color also changes between the steps which also allows for the viewers to see the shift in a more forward sense. Great Job!

    Jason,

    1. Name three ways using color enhances the chromatic metamorphosis from sequence to sequence?

I like how the background color was used to grab my attention on the first two pictures. The bright and vibrant colors really can catch someones eye, but remember that it also has to make sense too. I believe that most people will like the color choice for the first two pictures. I also like the how the background changed to grey when the man began to appear. It definately relates to the transformation. I also appreciated how you balanced the color in the last picture. I like how the man matched the background.

    Good Luck,

    4. Describe what is potentially happening between the steps.
How effective is the continuity between the seven steps, explain?
If the continuity is not effective why is it not working?

The initial letter is changing from a distinct letter shape of J into the image of a man running as well as changing the position of the letter J initial and the running man.

The background images are changing colors from image to image. The color properties of hue, value, and intensity or saturation were changed from image to image to accomplish these color background changes. The shape of the initial J was changed as was the opacity of layer and/or fill to reveal the running man image on a lower layer.

The first image has a pink colored textured background. The initial J has a gold textured fill.

The second image has a blue colored textured background. The hue or color property was changed to change the color. The initial J shape was changed with the edges or shape of the letter were made jagged. The position of the initial J shape was moved slightly to the right. The opacity of the man running was significantly reduced so that the viewer just see a faint outline of the running man.

The third image has a grey colored textured background. The hue or color property was changed to change the color. The initial J shape was changed again and the edges or shape of the letter were made jagged. The position of the initial J shape was moved slightly to the right. The opacity of initial J shape was reduced to allow the image of the running man to be revealed or show through the texture of the letter. The opacity of the running man image was increased from the previous image.

The fourth image has a darker gray colored textured background. The value or brightness property was changed to make the image background darker.

The fifth image has a darker gray colored textured background. The value or brightness property was changed to make the image background even darker. . The initial J shape was changed again and the edges or shape of the letter were made jagged. The position of the initial J shape was moved slightly to the right. The opacity of initial J shape was further reduced to allow more of the image of the running man to be revealed or show through the texture of the letter. The opacity of the running man image was increased from the previous image.

The sixth image has a darker gray colored textured background. The value property was changed to make the image background even darker. The opacity of initial J shape was further reduced to allow more of the image of the running man to be revealed or show through the texture of the letter. The opacity of the running man image was increased from the previous image.

The seventh image has a darker gray colored textured background. The value property was changed to make the image background even darker. The running man image is completely revealed. The initial J letter is not included in the last image.

The continuity between the sevens steps generally works. However, the running image is not completely covered-up by initial J letter so that in several of the images the running man image is not completely hidden or covered by the letter J image. This could have been avoided by having a slightly larger letter to begin with.

  4. What do you think of the quality of the design aand composition? Is there enough contrast between each of the seven images to get a true feeling of chromatic metamorphasis, explian? If not also explain?

    Jason,
I like the quality of the image. I think there is enough difference between each picture, to understand whats going on. And I really love that the running man actually moves through the picture. He could have morphed from the letter J into a man in the same place. But I think the fact that he actually moves across the piece adds significantly to the composition.

    3. How is perspective used in the overall composition? What type of perspective is used and how does it enhance the composition and/or the transition between steps?

I would say that the perspective was used in a clever way because the letter had the man running inside of it using it as some kind of dimension. However, there wasn’t any 3D type of perspective but I enjoyed it. It enhanced the image by the man becoming more alive as the slides get towards the conclusion.

  6. 2 – Project 3 Critique – Balance
    2. What type of balance is used in the metamorphosis and what is the point of focus? Does either change between the steps or do they remain the same throughout the steps? Be specific in answers.

    Jason
The type of balance that is being used in this composition is linear balance because the J starts at the left in the beginning image and it gradually changes into a running man inside the J and then into a man running. The shape of the J changes very little but it does change in the way we look at it because a man fades into view on each sequence. I like this project that you did, it looks like it can be a flip book anyway you look at it.
    Good job!
Thank you for reading my comments.
